CHOOSING WEDDING FLOWER COLOURS
Wedding ‘wows’ are taking on a whole new hue.
Whether the event is laid back and casual or amped up sophistication, every bride wants that something special that sets it apart. And that special something could be anything from the wedding dress to the table decor, the speeches to the bridesmaids or the music to the food.
Colourful flowers are one sure way of adding interest and intrigue to the nuptials, with more and more brides pushing the boundaries of convention. While white weddings will always be a firm favourite, bright and happy colours are taking centre stage.
For a jaw-dropping look, brides-to-be may want to think about these bright schemes..
’R’ is for red and romance. Always dramatic, always striking and guaranteed to turn heads, red looks great on its own or mixed with white as an accent colour. Historically considered more of a winter colour, it is eye-catching and a symbol of love and passion all year round! If red’s your thing, what about a gorgeous velvet or crushed silk wedding gown offset by velvety red roses, orchids, lilies or berries?.
Yellow is far from mellow, and could set the stage for the happiest of celebrations. Perfect for spring or summer nuptials, yellow symbolises happiness and friendship. Paler shades of yellow such as pale lemon and ivory are well suited to brides with a more olive complexion, and the colour matches up well with green, white and blues. Some of the flower varieties that evoke a ray of sunshine are freesias, daffodils, tulips, daisies, lilies and roses.
Silver and gold weddings are also starting to shine. A sure bet if you want your wedding to shine out from the crowd. With metallics in vogue, bridal gowns can be made of shimmering silver satin or gorgeous gold silk. Golden flowers are not as easy to find, but the trick is to accessorise with ribbon, vases, even fake flowers. It’s easier to create a silver look with flowers and foliage (accessories too), and silver or grey foliage will look magical with white flowers.
’Green’ weddings in colour and in conscience are also gaining ground. Fresh and inspiring, green is an easy colour with which to experiment. White, pink, red, blue, yellow – they all go with green. Green foliage with its varying shades and textures provides inspiration, whilst green flowers such as lisianthus, chrysanthemums, young hydrangeas, limes, bamboo and gladioli work well.
Black is also back. It takes courage to wear black as a bride but it can look dramatic. Black flowers are more difficult, but certain blooms could be dyed by a professional florist such as Perth florist, Angel Flowers. Accessorising with ribbon, bows, pebbles etc is another way of harmonising the look.
Brown weddings are warm and wonderful. For a tailored, smart outfit, tweed or wool looks good whilst rich chocolate brown velvet looks fabulous in a sumptuous gown. Some beautiful brown flowers include magnolia, pussy willow, chrysanthemum and nandina.
Whether it’s an all-white affair or a colourful celebration, brides are ringing the changes when it comes to wedding themes and schemes. If you’re thinking about a white wonderland or a kaleidoscope wedding, ask your local Perth wedding flower specialist for ideas and inspiration.
